The Venue

Nyllavert Gardens is a uniquely private venue situated in the centre of the City of Launceston. It offers a flat, expansive lawn in the garden of an imposing Edwardian house. The venue is accessed by a curved, hedged drive that leads to the garden, the lawn, a raised terrace and an elegant balcony area. Nyllavert Gardens is in walking distance of the city’s churches, accommodation and visitor attractions and provides adjacent parking. This venue offers a blank canvas that can be readily adapted to the client’s needs and requirements.

The History

The house known as Nyllavert was built in 1898 as the family home of former Member of Parliament William Barnes Jnr Esq. The City of Launceston is indebted to the Barnes family for the gift to its citizens of the Cataract Gorge and Cliff Grounds. Nyllavert (Trevallyn spelled backwards) looks across the city to the hillside suburb of Trevallyn (formerly Trevallyn Estate) the property that William Barnes had farmed and subdivided over the years.

Functions & Events

The lawn area, known as the Grand Lawn, can accommodate up to 150 guests in a large marquee at ‘sit down’ events such as weddings or conventions. The lawn, which is flat and offers shade from attractive mature trees, is well suited for ‘stand up’ cocktail events such as engagement parties, anniversaries or corporate events for up to 300 guests. Guests may also take advantage of the paved terrace area and an elegant balcony - an ideal setting for photographs.

The venue works closely with selected local suppliers that specialise in premium Tasmanian produce, including Matson Catering and Hubert & Dan. Hire companies offering high quality equipment and marquees, such as Weeding Hire and Salters Hire, can create a special setting for your wedding, private function or corporate event.

Catering & Beverages

Nyllavert Gardens is a fully licensed venue and an attractive suite of drinks packages is available to meet clients' needs and to complement any style of function held in the grounds. Hirers may choose from any of our selected catering or marquee providers.
